Ridgeway Roofers
Roof repairs, re-roofs, slate and flat roofs, chimneys and leadwork for homes built to face the Pennine weather.

Ridgeway Roofers Halifax is a roofing company serving Halifax and the surrounding Calderdale towns and villages in West Yorkshire. We repair and re-roof slate and tiled roofs, repair and replace flat roofs, renew chimney flashings and leadwork, roof dormers and fit roof windows, and replace guttering, fascias and soffits. Call 01422 774307 for a quote.
Roofs here work hard. Hillside terraces catch the wind from every direction, rain arrives sideways off the moors, and plenty of houses still carry their original slate, stone chimney stacks and lead. We see the results every week: slipped slates, damp chimney breasts, leaking valleys and gutters that can't cope.
Our approach is simple. Find out exactly where the water is getting in, tell you what it'll take to put it right, and do that job properly.

Halifax grew fast in the mill era, and a lot of its housing dates from then: stone terraces climbing the valley sides, back-to-backs, larger villas around Savile Park and Skircoat, and weavers' cottages further up the Calder Valley. Many still have Welsh slate roofs with stone chimney stacks and lead flashings.
That combination lasts well, but it has weak points. Slate nails rust through and slates slide out of their courses. Lead flashings lift at chimneys exposed to the wind. Mortar on the ridge and verge washes out. And on steep streets, water that overshoots a gutter ends up soaking straight into stone walls.
Much of central Halifax, Hebden Bridge and several villages sit in conservation areas. If your home is listed or in one, check with Calderdale Council before changing roof materials. Like-for-like repairs generally don't need permission.

Plain dealing from the first phone call to the last swept path.
We inspect the roof around the problem as well as the problem itself, so the repair goes where the water actually gets in.

Yes. Halifax and the Calder Valley are full of terraced streets on steep ground, where access and scaffolding need planning. We'll look at the access when we visit and include it in the quote.
The Pennine weather drives rain sideways and upwards into gaps that ordinary rain never reaches: lifted slates, open verges, loose flashings and tired pointing on chimneys. Finding which one is letting water in is the first part of any repair.
Yes. Most chimney leaks come from failed lead flashing, open joints in the stack or an uncapped flue, and each has a different fix.
Yes, on extensions, garages, dormers and porches. We can repair or replace them, and turn a problem flat roof into a pitched one where that suits the property.
Yes. Roof windows are fitted and flashed into slate or tile, either on their own or as part of a re-roof or dormer job.
Keep people away from anywhere slates or tiles could fall, contain any water inside, take photos for your insurer and ring 01422 774307. Don't go up on the roof yourself.
Halifax and its districts, Sowerby Bridge, Elland, Greetland, Brighouse, Hipperholme, Northowram, Shelf, Ripponden, Luddenden, Mytholmroyd, Hebden Bridge and Todmorden. If you're nearby and not sure, call with your postcode.
If the covering is sound apart from the damaged area, repair it. If slates are slipping all over, the underlay has perished or you're paying for patch after patch, a re-roof is usually better value. We'll tell you which we think and why.
