Slate going on

Why old slate roofs start slipping
On older roofs the slate often outlasts the iron nails holding it. As nails rust through, slates slide out one by one, a problem known as nail fatigue. A few can be refixed. When it spreads across a whole slope, stripping and re-slating, keeping the good slates, is the lasting fix.
Natural slate or man-made?
Natural slate is split stone, lasts a very long time and suits older and listed properties. Man-made slate is lighter, uniform and suits many newer homes and extensions. We'll talk through which fits your house and any conservation-area requirements.
