Where the water gets in

A ceiling stain is where the water ends up, not where it starts. On a Halifax roof, wind-driven rain can creep under a lifted slate, run down a batten and drop onto a ceiling a metre or two away. We look at the slates, flashings, valleys and ridge above and around the damp before recommending a fix.

Signs you need a roofer

  • Slate or tile pieces on the ground

What you can expect from us

Plain dealing from the first phone call to the last swept path.

A proper look

We inspect the roof around the problem as well as the problem itself, so the repair goes where the water actually gets in.

A straight answer

You'll hear whether it's a repair, a bigger job or nothing to worry about yet, with the reasons, before you decide anything.

A tidy finish

Old slates, tiles, offcuts and packaging are cleared away and the work is talked through with you when it's done.

Questions about roof repairs

Can one slipped slate be fixed on its own?

Yes. A sound slate that has slipped because its nail has rusted can be refixed with a slate hook or tingle. Broken ones are replaced with a matching slate.

Why does my roof only leak when it's windy?

Wind drives rain under lifted slates, into open verges and behind loose flashings that stay dry in calm rain. Knowing the wind direction when it leaks helps find the spot.

Will I need scaffolding for a repair?

Not always. Some repairs can be reached with ladders and a roof ladder. Taller terraces or awkward access on steep streets may need a tower or scaffold, and the quote will say so.

Do you repair stone slate roofs?

Yes, we repair older stone slate roofs as well as Welsh slate and tiled roofs, matching materials as closely as we can.
